Veterinary & Health Services

At Solar Grazing Health, we prioritize the wellbeing of all animals that contribute to successful solar grazing—including sheep, herding dogs, and livestock guardian animals. Our veterinary-driven services are designed to support both animal health and site-level performance across a range of grazing operations. Whether managing a single flock or multiple solar sites, our team provides the oversight and expertise needed to safeguard animal welfare and operational success.

Flock Health Inspections

We provide comprehensive on-site health inspections for grazing flocks and working animals. These inspections evaluate sheep condition (body scoring, parasite load, injury assessment), while also reviewing the condition and performance of herding dogs and livestock guardian dogs (LGDs). Our evaluations address nutritional needs, foot health, hydration, and behavioral concerns, ensuring all animals on-site are fit for service. Each inspection concludes with a written health summary and site-specific recommendations.

Animal Welfare Audits – Including Water Accessibility & Quality Evaluations

Our welfare audits go beyond basic animal checks to ensure optimal care environments for sheep, guard dogs, and herding animals. These audits assess access to clean, fresh water; shelter and shade; fencing safety; and potential hazards across the solar site. Special attention is given to water quality, delivery systems, and access points, particularly for LGDs and dogs housed on-site. Audits align with recognized animal welfare standards and can help meet corporate sustainability or ESG goals.

Virtual Veterinary Consultations

Producers and site managers can access expert veterinary guidance without waiting for an in-person visit. Our virtual consultation service allows for live discussions with experienced sheep and working dog veterinarians to address issues such as parasite outbreaks, injury management, vaccination planning, behavioral challenges, or adjusting health protocols during extreme weather events.

Parasite and Disease Management Plans

Solar grazing presents unique parasite risks. Our veterinarians work with clients to develop seasonal parasite control plans that integrate fecal testing, site management strategies, and proper anthelmintic use. We also help monitor and manage disease risks across both flocks and working animals, including protocols for vaccination, injury prevention, zoonotic disease management, and dog-specific parasite concerns such as tick-borne illness.

Stay Connected

This site is just the beginning. As we build toward a national rollout, we invite you to stay informed and engaged.

Together, we can build a healthier, more sustainable solar grazing ecosystem—one that prioritizes the wellbeing of both animals and the producers who care for them.
