Consulting for Solar Developers & Utilities
Solar grazing introduces new opportunities for land stewardship, vegetation management, and community engagement—but it also brings unique responsibilities when it comes to animal health and site readiness. The Solar Grazing Health Initiative provides expert consulting services to support solar companies and utilities throughout the lifecycle of their grazing projects—from concept to commissioning and beyond.
Whether you’re designing a new utility-scale project, transitioning to managed grazing, or responding to community or investor questions around animal welfare, we offer trusted, science-backed support.

Solar Site Assessments
Our team conducts in-depth evaluations of solar project sites to determine their readiness for grazing sheep and housing working animals. We assess forage availability, fencing suitability, shade access, water systems, terrain hazards, and infrastructure layout. The result is a comprehensive site report outlining key recommendations to improve animal safety, reduce stress, and ensure compatibility with rotational grazing plans.

Customized Animal Welfare Planning
Each solar site is different—so are the animals that may work there. We develop customized animal welfare plans that align with industry best practices, ESG goals, and local climate conditions. Plans cover everything from mineral supplementation and hydration logistics to handling protocols, rest areas for livestock guardian dogs, and species-appropriate shelter. These plans are designed to be submitted with operational or compliance documentation.
Community Engagement Support
Solar grazing projects can generate strong public interest—and scrutiny. Our team supports developers in communicating the benefits of grazing partnerships with clear messaging around animal welfare, sustainability, and agricultural revitalization. We help facilitate producer-community partnerships, provide speaking support at public meetings, and develop outreach materials that reflect your commitment to responsible land use and animal care.

Producer Vetting for RFP Processes
Finding the right grazing partner is critical. We help solar developers vet applicants who respond to RFPs for grazing contracts by reviewing their animal care practices, infrastructure, previous experience, and management capabilities. Our team can conduct interviews, site visits, and reference checks to ensure producers are fully equipped to meet animal welfare and land management standards.
Staff Education on Animal Health, Behavior, and Care
Operational staff working on solar sites need the right knowledge to interact safely and respectfully with animals. We offer customized training sessions—virtual or on-site—for solar company personnel, maintenance teams, and vegetation managers. Topics include recognizing signs of animal distress, interacting with guardian dogs, responding to emergencies, and understanding seasonal animal needs.

Signage Development for On-Site Animal Awareness
Clear and informative signage helps promote public safety, protect animals, and communicate the grazing program’s value. We develop customized signage templates and messaging for solar sites, including “Do Not Disturb Livestock,” “Working Dogs On Duty,” “Grazing in Progress,” “CAUTION Rams on Site for Breeding Season”, and educational panels explaining how grazing supports biodiversity and sustainable land management.
Stay Connected
This site is just the beginning. As we build toward a national rollout, we invite you to stay informed and engaged.
Together, we can build a healthier, more sustainable solar grazing ecosystem—one that prioritizes the wellbeing of both animals and the producers who care for them.
